Questions:

How level should the sub-base be?

We require the base to be to British Standard BS 7044 pt 4 which is a maximum of 3 +/-mm as measured under a 3m straight edge. British Standard 8203 1987 recommendations for the laying of sheet vinyl flooring covers this item l2.10 table 2 SR2.

In addition the deviation from the finished plane should not be greater than 6+/-mm over the area.

With a new concrete slab or screed what should the moisture content be prior to installation?
For the Pulastic range we require the base to meet British Standard 8203 1987 ie less than 75% RH as measured with a hygrometer.

As a rule of thumb sand/cement screeds dry at a rate of I mm per day.

Power float slabs at a thickness of 15Omm are unlikely to be dry in less than 16 to 18 weeks.

Surface DPMs such as Tremco Treadfast ES3000 Treadfast "one coat" and Sika 81 Epocem and Sikadur 32 can be applied to the damp concrete slab to "seal" in the moisture.

Uniturf - When loose laid and perimeter bonded there is no requirement for a dry concrete base to the above standards. Our experience is that slabs laid more than 6 weeks ago are acceptable.

Primaflex - Special strip stick techniques allow the surfacing to be laid 6 weeks after the slab has been cast.

Robbins Maple Flooring - A polyurethane membrane is used under the system and laid on the concrete slab. We recommend a 6 week period after the slab is cast prior to installing the floor system.

Can underfloor heating be used?
Yes, with certain reservations, please contact us to discuss the options.

Pulastic
Bonded directly to a screed with hot water recirculating pipes is acceptable with a concrete/rubber interface temperature maximum 35C.

Uniturf
Fully bonded installations. Up to 30C maximum interface temperature. Loose laid not recommended but installation with underfloor heating systems with a maximum interface temperature of 23 degrees C have not given problems.

Recycled Rubber - Primaflex
Up to 35 degrees C interface temperatures for fully bonded installations are acceptable.

Robbins Maple System
A maximum interface of 25 degrees C is acceptable but underfloor systems are not the most compatible with hardwood systems.
